DIVE or TRICK?

Trick-or-treating
is a customary celebration for children on Halloween. Children go in costume from house to house, asking for treats such as candy or sometimes money, with the question, "Trick or treat?" The word "trick" refers to a threat to perform mischief on the homeowners or their property if no treat is given. In some parts of Ireland and Scotland children still go guising. In this custom the child performs some sort of show, i.e. sings a song or tells a ghost story, in order to earn their treats.

Like in the gold times We are planning to celebrate this Halloween diving with You!!

PROTECT TO THE SHARKS!

Sharks are important to the health of the oceans. Without them, many ocean ecosystems, including several that are vital to the economy, are in danger of collapsing. This collapse would have devastating ecological and economic consequences… and some of these consequences have already started to happen. In addition to providing natural selection pressure and allowing only the fittest to survive by preying upon the weakest, sickest, and smallest fish, sharks are also important to marine ecosystems in other ways.
Human beings are better off with sharks than we are without sharks, and we are in danger of losing them forever… but you can help! Learn all you can about sharks, their ecological and economic importance, and the threats they face. Pass on what you have learned to others. The more people that know about this, the better off sharks will be!

UPcoming events....

From November to february bull sharks runs in the Mexican Caribbean.
Bull sharks are large and stout. Males can reach 2.1 m (6 ft 11 in) and weigh 91 kg (200 lb). Females can be much larger: up to 4 m (13 ft 1 in)[13] and 318 kg (700 lb). Bull sharks are wider than other requiem sharks of comparable length, and are grey on top and white below. The second dorsal fin is smaller than the first.

Bull sharks breed in the summer, often in the brackish water of river mouths. After gestating for about a year, a bull shark may give birth to as many as 13 live young (they are viviparous). The young are about 70 cm (28 in) at birth and take 10 years to reach maturity.

This season is gonna be AWESOME!

HANGING OUT with BULL SHARKS...

Sharks have great hearing, and it's usually the sense they employ first when they're on the hunt because sound travels so well underwater. Sharks can start to pick up underwater noises farther away and at lower frequencies than people can, and those wavelengths are just the ones that are often most helpful in the ocean depths. For example, the sounds from swimming usually register in this range.

Next comes scent. Sharks have a renowned talent for sniffing out the tiniest quantities of chemicals in the water surrounding them, but not over extremely vast distances -- they tend to max out at around 450 yards (411 meters). They focus in on an odor by swinging their heads from side to side as they swim, so that their powerful nares can zone in on the source of the smell. Swimming into the current is another common shark strategy -- it's often the direction a scent is arriving from.

A message from our Customers....

Hi!

Doing well, but a shame to be back at work. Having salt-water withdrawal already. I'm glad that you enjoyed the pictures. As I said, I got a lot more of closeups of the sharks, but figure you have those. I found one more of Charlie in the most dangerous situation of them all ! I forgot to include it before. And thanks for Corrine's email. I just sent her some photos and a note. I'll be posting those notes on the web sites in the next week or two.

Thanks for all your help. I had a lot of fun.

About Caribbean reef Squid..

The Caribbean Reef Squid is found throughout the Caribbean Sea as well as off the coast of Florida, commonly in small schools of 4-30 in the shallows associated with reefs. The habitat of the Reef Squid changes according to the squid's stage of life and size. New hatchlings tend to reside close to the shore in areas from 0.2-1 meters below the surface on or under vegetation. Young small squid typically congregate in shallow turtle grass near islands and remain several centimeters to two meters from the surface to avoid bird predators. Adults venture out into open water and can be found in depths up to 100 m. When mating, adults are found near coral reefs in depths of 1.5-8 m. The Caribbean Reef Squid is the only squid species commonly sighted by divers over inshore reefs in the Florida, Bahamas and Caribbean region.

ABOUT CHAC-MOOL. Cortesy by Anita Brown From NY.

Chac Mol, optionally spelled Chac Mool or Chaac Mol, and pronounced ‘shahk mole,’ is an underwater cavern on Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula. Its translation from Mayan language is ‘God of the Rain.’ Mexico has innumerable underwater caverns frequented by scuba divers of varying levels of expertise. They are fresh water caverns that do not house fish!

This second movement, which was in fact the first to inspire musical conception, will offer my impression of this breathtaking place shown through the astonishingly vibrant image of a single, underwater porthole. Again, in high contrast imagery, this photo reveals the physical foreground in black to actually be the image’s background, while its physical background in glorious gradations of turquoise and green with broad rings of reverberating sunlight, pulls the eye deep into the cavern, thereby becoming its main subject. Capturing the natural landscape and three scuba divers in silhouette, the photographer’s sense of line and composition asks the eye to choose between being guided forward into the deep or laterally to the right of the frame. The divers’ unmistakable silhouettes reveal this to be a place unwilling to support human life without appropriate equipment and experience.

LABOR DAY with Phantom Divers!

Labor Day is a United States federal holiday observed on the first Monday in September.
The holiday originated in 1882 as the Central Labor Union of New York City sought to create "a day off for the working citizens." Congress made Labor Day a federal holiday on June 28, 1894, two months after the May Day Riots of 1894. May 4 was chosen to remember the Haymarket Affair. All 50 U.S. states have made Labor Day a state holiday.
Labor Day has been celebrated on the first Monday in September in the United States since the 1880s. The form for the celebration of Labor Day was outlined in the first proposal of the holiday—a street parade to exhibit to the public "the strength and esprit de corps of the trade and labor organizations," followed by a festival for the workers and their families. This became the pattern for Labor Day celebrations.

Labor day means "NO LABOR"

LION FISH in Riviera Maya.

It may sounds strange to many of us that Lion Fish (Pterois volitans) has increased its presence in the Mexican Caribbean in recent months .This specie is authentic from western Pacific and Oceania.
Lion fish is noted for its beauty and devastating to the ecosystem as well. Recently ,Private Institutions convened a meeting with all dive shops in the Riviera Maya and PHANTOM DIVERS was there . We are committed to help to our planet, is a way to thank nature for all the gifts provided to us in the Mexican Caribbean.
Lion fish can reach 38 cm and weighing 1200 g, is a territorial fish that sometimes swiftly towards anything to hurt the aggressor with its thorns. All spines are poisonous and sting, although it is relatively painless at first, it is extremely painful after a while, depending on the venom received. They are carnivores that feed on small fish, crustaceans and molluscs and are remarkably quick to adapt to new prey consumed.

WRECK DIVING..Playa del Carmen

There´s nothing quite like the thrill of diving a wreck for the first time. Descending, you gaze downward, trying to catch a glimpse of it. At first, nothing. Then a hazy outline appears, and for a moment you´re confused as your eyes try to sort it out. Then the wreck dissolves into clear view as you arrive upon it.
Wrecks offers diversity, attractions and opportunities not found in "natural" dive enviroments-but nature encroaches as the underwater world changes it into an artificial reef teeming with life.
We offer you ship wreck diving in Playa del Carmen, México. Ask for more info to:

WHY should you dive in Playa del Carmen, Mexico?

The coast of Playa del Carmen located in the Riviera Maya lists many good reasons why you should know. Most of the year offers you a good visibility, the corals are packed full of life, the colors are stunning, and you may find the deep shipwrecks and some of the largest barrier reef in the world. Good weather dominated most of the years ago wanting to plunge into the warm turquoise waters to cool. Whenever you dive to find new things, this is an adventure every day.

NIGHT DIVE in the mexican caribbean!

Dive at night? why? If you´re new to diving and have never tried it, the idea might seem strange, or even intimidating. What can you see at night that you wouldn´t during the day?
Think about a nocturnal stroll trough a familiar park. At first it seems a little scary perhaps, but as your ayes adjust to the dark you relax, recognizing the familiar paths and trees. It´s the same place you´ve seen many times during the day, yet somehow different.
You may feel a little bit anxius about going underwater in the dark no worries, that´s natural and for some, even a bit of the fun.
You´ll be fascinated with night diving, already ready for your next.

PHANTOM DIVERS AND THE PLEASURES OF PLAYA DEL CARMEN..BY:MORGANATRAVELS

Is Playa Del Carmen the best diving ever? No. But, we've been diving here several times and enjoyed our dives each time. The sites can range from shallow 35' to deep 100+'. The soft corals are in decent shape and there are lots of fish. My personal favorite is the quantity of large turtles that I have seen. This trip was no exception - on one dive we spotted EIGHT turtles, some swimming by, some eating, most within 10' of me! I love to dive Playa because of the turtles!! The excellent vis, pleasant drift (what a wonderfully lazy way to do a dive-lol!), soft corals, lots of fish, lobsters, eels and TURTLES make Playa an area that I enjoy coming back to again & again. We'll be there the end of April for another long weekend of diving.

The capt takes your weightbelt & gear so that you can climb into the boat unencumbered. He switches your gear to a new tank, then before heading to the next site hands out bottled water . The sites are within minutes of the dive shop and the beach is always within visual. This doesn't translate to shore dive & save the boat fare though - keep in mind the reefs are a bit of a swim and with the drift you & your equipment would have quite the walk back! We left around 9am, did 2 dives & were back at the shore around noonish each day . If you are doing multiple days of diving you can leave your equipment at the shop.

Thru the shop you can do Cenotes & Cozumel as well. We have done both in the past. Also, if you are there in the winter months you can do a Bull Shark dive . Our scheduling didn't allow us to particpate, but several diving with us had and loved it.

We've been diving a long time & enjoy a variety of dives. Because of the staff (& I certainly haven't named them all!) at Phantom this deserves an EXCELLENT rating. Again, there are better dives in the world - but, that's certainly no reason to dismis these, that would be the equivalent of avoiding other works by Michelangelo because they aren't the Sistine Chapel!!!! Whether you are a novice or an old jaded diver these are some fun dives and this is a GREAT STAFF!
